This 10,000 hectare project is being run in conjunction with Sembrando Vida, a Mexican government department that has funded the planting of 2.5 hectares per family in indigenous territories with 25,000 families benefitting in Chiapas. This means that there is now spare land within the indigenous communities that they and Sembrando Vida want to return to native forest to create wildlife corridors across the landscape. However, Sembrando Vida are not allowed to use their funds for native reforestation. This project can help here by funding the reforestation and in return to help with monetizing the excess food production from the ejidos and developing additional income streams such as ecotourism.
