rePLANET is a mission-led company with a core aim of protecting and restoring biodiversity on a global-scale. To achieve this aim, we need to work with as many project developers as possible to maximise the flow of finance from the private sector into conservation. rePLANET’s unique combination of project development experience, knowledge of ecological monitoring, and financial expertise means it is perfectly positioned to offer advisory services to organisations seeking to use innovative mechanisms to design, monitor and/or finance their nature restoration and protection endeavours.
rePLANET tailors its activities to the needs of the client but some examples of specific services are outlined below:
Production of initial project documentation
- rePLANET can help to write the concept notes required to register a project with any of the major carbon and biodiversity certifying bodies including Plan Vivo, Verra, and the Biodiversity Futures Initiative. As part of this process, we create detailed project budgets and financial models that can be presented to investors to generate interest in your project.
Design of carbon and biodiversity monitoring strategies to create project baselines
- All credit funded protection and restoration initiatives require a carbon and/or biodiversity baseline to be created before project activities commence. This ‘time zero (t0)’ baseline provides the benchmark against which future net zero and Nature Positive claims are made. rePLANET can design data collection protocols and sampling strategies that enable projects to monitor their efficacy and convert claims into high-quality evidence-backed credits.
Project management of biodiversity baseline surveys
- rePLANET has extensive experience managing large-scale biodiversity monitoring campaigns in diverse ecoregions and remote locations around the world. We can be contracted to do this on the behalf of your project, and will ensure that the data collection meets the highest standards possible meaning that you can have confidence in the Nature Positive claims you are making.
Project feasibility analysis
- If you have an idea for a project that you think may be suitable for credit funding, we can complete an initial feasibility report that will assess the likely benefits associated with your proposed interventions balanced against their costs and likelihood of obtaining investment from the private sector. This analysis may guide your decision making process to help you determine if carbon and/or biodiversity credits are a good funding option for your project.
Mapping of habitats and environmental variables
- rePLANET’s technical team can be contracted to create maps showing the distribution of habitats and environmental variables across specific geographical areas. In some instances it is also possible to conduct a temporal analysis which allows you to assess how areas have changed over time.
The above is a non-exhaustive list of the services that can be supplied by rePLANET. If there is a specific piece of work that you think would benefit from our input, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our Scientific Advisory Services team through our Nature Programme Manager, Dr Max Bodmer (max.bodmer@replanet.org.uk).
